Erick Soriano has represented a wide range of communications and technology companies, large and small, before federal and state courts and agencies, including the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice, state attorneys general, and state public utilities commissions. He has represented technology companies, competitive local exchange carriers, rural incumbent telephone companies, long distance carriers, private carriers, wireless carriers, shared tenant service providers, payphone providers, conference calling providers, equipment manufacturers, debit card service providers, internet service providers, managed services providers, and other business entities providing enhanced/information services. As a telecommunications attorney, he handles myriad issues unique to telecommunications companies, such as intercarrier compensation, IP-enabled services (VoIP)/Internet, resale, interconnection, collocation, access to unbundled network elements, inside wiring, tariffing, multistate authorizations for long distance and local exchange service, international service, rights-of-way access and pole attachments, Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), network neutrality, telecommunications relay service, universal service, slamming, telephone numbering, cybersecurity, and privacy.
Likewise, Mr. Soriano provides legal representation to technology/software developers and users, principally in the areas of software/technology contract review, drafting, and negotiation; trademarks and copyrights; privacy and cybersecurity; and general business issues. Mr. Soriano also provides legal advice to nonprofit organizations regarding 501(c)(3) processes, strategic issues, organizational structure, risk assessment, fundraising, fiscal sponsorship, board governance, intellectual property, the Internet/social media, and related matters. Mr. Soriano regularly serves as a speaker, lecturer, and moderator at industry seminars and conferences.
Prior to founding Axxis Law Group, PLLC, Mr. Soriano was a partner in the Georgetown, D.C. office of Seattle, Washington-based law firm of Garvey Schubert Barer. Prior to that, he was Senior Counsel with the blue-chip boutique telecommunications firm Fleischman and Harding (now Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge). Before joining Fleischman and Harding, Mr. Soriano held senior positions with two of the world’s largest and oldest law firms, Kelley Drye and Warren and Reed Smith. Prior to that, he served as General Counsel for a telecommunications company for several years.
What makes Mr. Soriano unique as a telecommunications and information technology lawyer is the fact that he had served in various technical and management capacities working for some of the nation’s largest and premier technology companies and software providers prior to his legal career. In these positions, he was engaged in software programming and development, systems analysis, technical writing, training, advertising, and sales and marketing.
Mr. Soriano actively participates in the activities of several mandatory and voluntary bar associations and standard-setting organizations, and more recently was a voting member of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Smart Grid Interoperability Panel, and a member of the NIST SGIP Cyber Security Working Group and Privacy Subgroup. He has served for many years as co-chair of the Federal Communications Bar Association’s many committees, including the Diversity Committee, the Professional Responsibility Committee, the State and Local Practice Committee, and Access to Records Committee. He is a member of several bars and voluntary bar associations, including but not limited to, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of New Jersey, the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Mr. Soriano also provides pro bono services to several national nonprofit/charitable organizations

Mr. Soriano obtained his M.A. in Communications from the University of Oklahoma in 1985 and his Juris Doctor degree from the Beasley School of Law at Temple University in 1991 where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Temple International and Comparative Law Journal. At Temple, he was also inducted into the nationally renowned Moot Court Honor Society. In addition, he achieved the following distinctions: Dean's Honor List; William Spofford Scholar; Recipient, Terence Klasky Memorial Award for Academic Excellence; Semifinalist, Polsky Moot Court Competition; Oralist and Team Captain, Jessup International Cup (Regional Oralist); Best Paper and American Jurisprudence Award, Advanced Securities Regulations; and President, International Law Society. In 2015, Mr. Soriano graduated from Georgetown University's Institute for Transformational Leadership.
